RIH Mary Christine Brockert

March 5, 1956 – December 26, 2010

Some years ago I had the opportunity to work with some personal footage of Rick James, that gave a birds eye look into his life and journey. One of the most astonishing pieces in this footage was an interview from a young girl at the time, who would later be recognized as Teena Marie.  In this interview she revealed how she would come up with songs, how she would actually visualize the person singing the song in her dreams. She would awake, write and that would soon be the persons next hit record.  Teena Marie, writer, composer, musician,producer...she blessed many with her melodic imagery.

Lady Tee, you will forever be missed.

New Music|Fashion: EarLace|Alkhemi Jones

|Megan Good earlaced by Lace by Tayana|

I'm not sure who invented this earlace but I have spotted it around lately... and i like it!!! It's a combination of a pair of earrings and necklace tied in one. It's very 80's influenced.  I have seen many variations of it, including leather.

And it's always dope when you see new artists that can either rock the newest trends or absolutely KILL the things that not everyone would be able to pull off.

New songstress Alkhemi Jones does just that!!

And I know you're wondering "Who is Alkhemi Jones? A dope songstress on the rise whose music is Hip Hop|Rock|R&B|Alternative| and everything in the middle.  Some say she is an undeniable mix of Erykah Badu, Laury Hill, Andre 3000 and a twist of UGK. I believe she's just pure doPeNess!

Peep the behind the scenes footage for her video "Dreamin"....

For more on Alkhemi Jones Go HERE NOW!!!

A Colored Girl Vents....

                                                                  (Image of Tiffany Armstrong)

So this bitch said she couldn’t relate.
Last night I had the unpleasing pleasure of sitting across from a black girl who almost looked like me. But never will I say had the same poise or demeanor as me.  But she did look like me. Had her body garnished with tattoos like me. Earrings similar to a pair on my dresser dangled from her ear. Three or four inch heels secured her feet, sort of like the one of hundreds that lay one on top of the other in my closet. But this bitch said she couldn’t relate.
She couldn’t relate to me, not actually me, because I dare have shared that I too had once called out from work because the bruise over my eye would had absolutely killed my sales for the day. I was selling men shoes at that time in my life; Or that I had witnessed men who hopped in and out of the box of heterosexual and homosexual activities. Or that I’ve shared stories with friends who had either lost their virginity at a young age or had their hearts once broke or twice.
So yeah it was me too that she couldn’t relate to, not just the shells or examples of many women that were portrayed.
And offended I was.
And I guess my dismay was more my fault for relating too much. But honestly it’s not so much of being able to RELATE
BUT understanding that these situations are relative to “colored girls” or women in general not born in lily white shell flanked sugar and spice and everything nice.
Now I’m not going to front or even “high-side” and tell you that I read the book or experienced the play.
But I will tell you that I have the compassion, understanding, and plain right sense to know of the possibilities of such situations and to hold my judgment or p.o.v- lips shut- to avoid parading that ignorance
My friend had to tell me to just “eat my dinner” to avoid the heightened conversation that was about seven seconds from happening with this “bitch”
And please excuse my vulgarity; it’s simply my disbelief from the audacity of this “bitch”

But I suppose her audacity comes from never being called “colored”; you know that shit happened to me during my Spring 10’ Marketing 302 course and I was left sitting their dumbfounded

But I wonder what she could relate to. You know there was just a new movie called RED that came out, was that relative to her. Or what about those new artists Nicki Minaj, VV Brown, Muffy, were they relative to her life.  Oprah, Keyshia Cole, Nina Brown, maybe Cameron Diaz. Hell Nautica De La Cruz… I just wondered.

And I just had to take a deep breath< insert SMH here> because if a story like that isn’t in someway relative to your life in 2010, hats off and kudos and bravos to being oblivious to LIFE.

and by the way... the movie was awesome.

New Music Leak |Greg Nice| Put Your Drinks Up

Check out this new leak from Legendary Hip Hop Head Greg Nice.... (btw boo is lookin good!!!) His latest project, The Popcycle, is set to release late summer 2010. It reflects a dance, bmore  that some may think is a little bit of a different side... but if you remember the 2001 Zoolander track, "Star the Commotion" by the Wise guys featuring Greg Nice on the hook,  you'll know that this is nothing foreign for Greg N.I.C.E.

Video|Janelle Monae| Tightrope Remix

I was disturbed to read comments from people that stated that her performance during the Prince Tribute  -2010 Bet Awards was bad and questioned who she was. She is by far one of my favorite artist right now.Her style/aura is reminiscent of Andre 3000. But she is a true performer.  That's what we need more of in today's music. The music industry has changed so much that it's not enough to just sell records anymore. As an artist, I believe you have to come with something much more to attain longevity and to really be a "force to reckon with". And she definitely has that.

Go Here to check out her performance in the Prince Tribute that she absolutely KILLED!!! GO JM!!

Biggest PR Move of the Year!!!!

I have always been a fan of Chris Brown and yes I did feel as though people had been gooin extremely hard on the guy since the incident with Rhiana. I believe everyone makes mistakes and deserves second chances. And at the 2010 BET Awards that took place on June 28 2010, CB had the opportunity to "LIVE" again. He graced the stage and did an impeccable performance during the Michael Jackson Tribute. And one of the best to date!!!

This guy CB has been black listed from many events and to be able to perform the MJ tribute, and be introduced by Jermaine Jackson spoke volumes. And for all the people not over it, really ask yourself  are you really going to boo CB while he's performing a MJ Anniversary Tribute? This was a great PR move... but now everything that happened during the performance was sheer magic. I shed a tear!  It was humble, vulnerable and he kicked ass with the dance moves!Check it out below if you missed it or watch it again!

Thanks to Necole Bitchie for Video.

What people had to say about the performance

Lifestyle: Lakers Win NBA Finals... But Ron Artest

Okay So I was pulling for the Boston Celtics, (That's my team) but the Los Angeles Lakers pulled out he "W", so I SALUTE... Congratulations... and thank you Laker fans for not buring down the city.

It was an intense game and the best that I have seen thus far. But on another note... If you weren't as lucky to visually experience the debauchery that Ron Artest contributed to the aftergame interviews... Please focus your attention below. He played a great game and stepped up... but the dude is a weirdo... He thanked his "hood", his "psychiatrist", and managed to plug his single "Champion"....All I can say is wow.

New Music: Grip Plyaz "WHATDAHELLRDOZE"

Grip Plyaz featuring Tuki ( of Hollyweerd) "WHATDAHELLRDOZE"

I like this guy right here! He reps the south to a T, with that Southern "Gripalect" ( Grip Dialect). Tuki of Hollyweerd, joins him on this track for a traditional roasting session. I've hung out with these two dudes before, and this song if definitely reflective of atypical nite out with these two, roasting on the fashionably challenged.

Willow and Jaden Smith

So there was a bit a chirp about how avant garde The Smith children were dressed, more so the chirp was geared at Willow Smith. But I love it! My neice who is 9 yrs old, Loves to dress herself and has her own idea of what is HAUTE. Sometimes I consult with her about what I should wear.  Go Figure!

Throwback

Bilal -Sometimes

[Intro]
This is a song that makes me spill out all my guts
Sometimes

Sometimes, I wish I wasn't me
Sometimes, I wish I was drug free
Sometimes, wish I saw the exit sign first
Sometimes, wish I knew the truth without search
Sometimes, I wish I could go where I never been
See what I never saw, do what I never did
Or walk before I could crawl

Sometimes, I wish my eyes wasn't so red
Sometimes, I wish I had breakfast in bed
Sometimes, I mean it's worth it
Since I did all the work last night
Sometimes, you ain't good to me, yes
I am good to you
And you don't see my attention the way that I do

Sometimes, hey slim, you should be nicer than you are
Sometimes, you take that complaining shit way too far
I mean, I thought it was cute in the beginning but now
I think you only do it cuz you know I hate it
Sometimes, you got me wishing I didn't have home training
Sometimes, then it wouldn't hurt me so bad
With dreams of knocking you in your head
Then it wouldn't hurt me so bad
With our kitchen knife put up your ass

Sometimes, wish I knew life with no pain, yeah
Wish I held the keys to this game
Sometimes, I pretend cuz I'm afraid to be, afriad to be
Sometimes, I hope I live to see twenty five
Sometimes, I wish I could be like Moses
Round up my people, move out the ghetto
And live a better life
Sometimes, I wish I didn't try so hard
Sometimes, who knows truth any way
They don't know nothing, who needs that approval

The sun in your hands player
Move at your own pace, listen to your own mind
Do your own thing, yeah yeah
I'm saying it because I love ya
And I wanna grow with you, yeah yeah
But you wanna run in the other direction
So I got to stay on my path until I win
I win, I win, I win
I wanna win, I wanna win, I wanna win, I wanna win

Oh sometimes, sing it with me I wish
(I wish in love) And I wish, oh I wish
(I wish in peace) Oh sometimes
(I wish in hope) I wish hope
(I wish true) I wish true
(I wish clearly) Hey I wish so clearly sometimes
(Wish with no fear) I wish with no fear
(I have no fear) I have no fear
(Have no doubt) I have no doubt
(I don't doubt) I don't doubt
(Have no doubt) No, I don't doubt
(Have no doubt, I wish love)
I wish love, hey hey

Ad lib until fade

Jeffrey Campbell Does It Again!!!

My heart skipped a beat when I saw these.

I posted on the black leather some months ago, but these are ridiculous. This is honestly the shoe of the year. This is a great pattern for summer and definitely to transition into fall with textured tights and boho inspired garb. I can see it now.....

Jeffrey Campbell,  I heart you.

THURSDAYS MANTRA: I WILL NOT LOSE

I just woke up feeling this sentiment. There are times when I feel like the world is against me. No matter how much love and loyalty I exude. Sometimes I walk feeling like the world is on my shoulders. Heavy. Pressed. Pressure: To stay above it all. The bullshit and all those haters wanting to see you fall. But I Will Not Lose. Let's Go!

Kanye West+Dwele=POWER

POWER

I’m livin’ in the 21st century
Doin’ something mean to it
Do it better than anybody you ever seen do it
Screams from the ’80s, got a nice ring to it
I guess every superhero need his own theme music
No one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
(21st century schizoid man)
The system broken, the schools closed, the prisons open
We ain’t got nothin’ to lose, ma’fucka, we rollin’
Huh? Ma’fucka, we rollin’
With some light-skinned girls and some Kelly Rowlands
In this white man world, we the ones chosen
So goodnight, cruel world, I see you in the mornin’
Huh? I see you in the mornin’
This is way too much, I need a moment
No one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
‘Til then, fuck that, the world’s ours
And then they (Go)
And then they
And then they (Go)
And then they (21st century schizoid man)
Fuck SNL and the whole cast
Tell ‘em Yeezy said they can kiss my whole ass
More specifically, they can kiss my asshole
I’m an asshole? You niggas got jugs
You short-minded niggas’ thoughts is Napoleon
My furs is Mongolian, my ice, brought the Dodies in
Now I embody every characteristic of the egotistic
He know, he so, fuckin’ gifted
I just needed time alone, with my own thoughts
Got treasures in my mind, but couldn’t open up my own vault
My childlike creativity, purity and honesty
Is honestly being prodded by these grown thoughts
Reality is catchin’ up with me
Takin’ my inner child, I’m fighting for it, custody
With these responsibilities that they entrusted me
As I look down at my dia-mond-encrusted piece
Nigga, no one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
‘Til then, fuck that, the world’s ours
And then they (Go)
And then they
And then they (Go)
And then they
And then they (Go)
And then they (21st century schizoid man)
Holy, powers, Austin, Powers
Lost in translation with a whole fuckin’ nation
They say I was the obamanation of Obama’s nation
Well, that’s a pretty bad way to start the conversation
At the end of day, goddammit, I’m killin’ this shit
I know damn well y’all feelin’ this shit
I don’t need yo’ pussy, bitch, I’m on my own dick
I ain’t gotta power trip, who you goin’ home with?
How ‘Ye doin’? I’m survivin’
I was drinkin’ earlier, now I’m drivin’
Where the bad bitches, huh? Where ya hidin’?
I got the power, make yo’ life so excitin’ (So excitin’)
Now this’ll be a beautiful death
Jumpin’ out the window
Lettin’ everything go
Lettin’ everything go
Now this’ll be a beautiful death
Jumpin’ out the window
Lettin’ everything go
Lettin’ everything go
Now this’ll be a beautiful death
Jumpin’ out the window
Lettin’ everything go
Lettin’ everything go
Now this’ll be a beautiful death
Jumpin’ out the window
Lettin’ everything go
Lettin’ everything go
You got the power to let power come

Oh L.A....

The goods and bads of L.A.

 |BAD|
I really made an effort to get out and make it to RnB Live @ the Roxy, where Brandy was performing. But that was unsuccessful. I was so upset.  Luckily I found a snippet of her performance...

 |Good|
As we cruised the streets of Hollywood, my girls and I ran into Amber Rose... I love this chick. Her Newports, "thickness", leotards and "Life's a Party" attitude. And not to mention her "mojo" is at level 10. She was a sweetie! And yes I have to admit, even I was a little StarrStrukk!!

What do you think????? Teyana Taylor - Google Me

I have totally detached my self fromt the Television world, so I have been missing out on everything, DTWS and Ocho Cinco(Did he get kicked off?), The Chili Show, Lisa Raye, The Hills, The Housewives, The Bachelors, The Jumpoffs and The Groupies. But I just stumbled upon(plug) the first single by Teyana Taylor. You know I always refer you to google if you dont know who or what i'm talking about, so its ironic that this single is title " Google Me Baby". I think it's fun/cool/cute, and it answers one of our questions of what she actually does...

Happy MLK DAy!!

Today is the day that we celebrate the work and achievement of Dr.Martin Luther King Jr... "I Have A Dream"... "Free At Last"... Those are phrases that one cannot utter with out the association to Dr. King.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies
hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction....The chain reaction
of evil--hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars--must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of
annihilation."

Martin Luther King, Jr., Strength To Love, 1963.

I respect all that he stood for and all the sacrifices that he made. You'd be silly not to ask yourself "Where would we be if Dr.King had not sacrificed his life for my Civil Rights?"  and  How can I add to his legacy?

...I ran across this T-shirt and felt it could serve as a little reminder on where we came from ,where we are and were we need to continue to go!

Daily Fashion Rant

So there is an individual (leaving out names to protect the innocent) who calls me up for wardrobe advice at least once a week.  I know this is my "fortay", being blessed with the fashion insight ,know-how, and KAPOW!! on everylevel, but questions like "what shirt to wear with these blue jeans?" is just insulting.

This just lead me to todays Fashion Rant!

Some people believe that in order to be fashionable, you have to "break the bank"... and spend exorbitant amounts of money on garb....
When in actuality, you can be the baddest creature to walk in the front door dressed in an ensemble costing less than 20bucks!  It's your persona/personality/energy/mojo that is golden.

The KEY in being "fashionable" is being able to build your wardrobe with solid TIMELESS pieces platformed by FIT & expressive of your LIFESTYLE!
